About CARE

Educating the mind without educating the heart

is no education at all

~ Aristotle

The Child and Adolescent Research and Education (CARE) Lab is committed to the healthy development of children and youth by helping to educate both their minds and their hearts.

Established in 2012, our team is headed by Dr. Danielle Law, an Assistant Professor in Youth and Children’s Studies and Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. We are dedicated to promoting healthy relationships through ongoing research and community outreach; in this vein, we work hard to ensure that research we conduct informs the work we do with the community, while simultaneously allowing our work with the community to inform our research and teaching.

We take an interdisciplinary approach to the study of children and youth. Broadly, we are interested in studying how children, adolescents, and emerging adults develop cognitively and social-emotionally as they interact and socialize using various technologies. With this in mind, the CARE lab’s primary area of research focus has been in the areas of cyberbullying, responsible Internet use, parent and peer relationships, cultivating positive relationships, compassion and empathy.

Our goal is to work with multiple disciplines to bring research and evidenced based findings to the community by conducting research and sharing our findings through outreach initiatives.
